Algonquin Park provides multiple trails of varying difficulty levels.

Easy Hiking Trails

Algonquin Logging Museum Trail
Length:1.3km Time:1 hour
Location: 54.5 kms from West Gate
This trail and exhibits summarizes the logging history of the Algonquin area.

Spruce Bog Boardwalk
Length:1.5 km Time:1hour
Location: 42.5 kms from West Gate
Several boardwalk sections in the looped trail give you an excellent close-up look of two typical northern Black Spruce bogs. The trail is located right off of the Highway 60 corridor, making it very accessible for bird watching.

Moderate Hiking Trails

Whiskey Rapids Trail
Length:2.1 km Time:1.5hours
Location: 7.2 kms from West Gate
This looped trail leads along the Oxtongue River to scenic Whiskey Rapids. The trail guide discusses the ecology and history of an Algonquin river.
Hardwood Lookout Trail
Length:0.8 km Time:1 hour
Location: 13.8 kms from West Gate
This walk introduces the visitor to the ecology of a typical Algonquin hardwood forest and culminates in a fine view of Smoke Lake and the surrounding hills. Excellent fall colors viewing.

Peck Lake Trail
Length:1.9 km Time:1.5 hour
Location: 19.2 kms from West Gate
This trail circumnavigates the shoreline of Peck Lake. The trail guide explores the ecology of a typical Algonquin lake.

Hemlock Bluff Trail
Length:3.5 km Time:2 hours
Location: 27.2 kms from West Gate
This trail leads through a mixed forest to an impressive view of Jack Lake.

Bat Lake Trail
Length:5.6 km Time:3.5 hours
Location: 30 kms from West Gate
This looped trail introduces the hiker to basic park ecology while visiting a beautiful hemlock stand, a fine lookout, and acidic Bat Lake.

Two Rivers Trail
Length:2.1km Time:1 hour
Location: 31 kms from West Gate
This looped trail includes an easy climb to a pine-clad cliff.

Big Pines Trail
Length:2.9 km Time:2 hours
Location: 40.3 kms from West Gate
This trail visits spectacularly large, old growth White Pine and the remains of an 1880s logging camp.

Beaver Pond Trail
Length:2 km Time:1 hour
Location: 45.2 kms from West Gate
This trail provides excellent views of two beaver ponds.

Difficult Hiking Trails

Mizzy Lake Trail
Length:11 km Time:5-6 hours
Location: 15.4 kms from West Gate
This trail requires an early start and a full day to do properly. It visits nine ponds and small lakes and affords some of the best chances to see wildlife in the Parkway Corridor.

Track and Tower Trail
Length:7.7 km Time:3.5-4 hours
Location: 25 km from West Gate
This looped trail features a spectacular lookout over Cache Lake. An optional 5.5 km side trip follows an abandoned railway to Mew Lake.

Centennial Ridges Trail
Length: 10 km Time:5-6 hours
Location: 37.6 kms from West Gate
This demanding loop rewards the hiker with spectacular viewing along two high ridges.

Lookout Trail
Length: 1.9km Time:1 hour
Location: 39.7 kms from West Gate

Must visit in fall.This trail is relatively steep and rugged but affords the hiker with a magnificent view of several hundred square kilometers of Algonquin.

Booth’s Rock Trail
Length:5.1 km Time:2 hours
Location: 40.5 kms from West Gate
This trail visits two lakes and a spectacular lookout, returning via an abandoned railway.

Backpacking Trails
The interior of the park offers over 140 km of backpacking trails with designated campsites.

Biking Trails

Old Railway Bike Trail
Length: 10 kms one way Time:4-5 hours
Location: Access to the Old Railway Bike Trail is available from: Mew Lake Campground , Kearney Lake Campground , Coon Lake Campground , Pog Lake Campground and Rock Lake Campground.

Must visit for spectacular fall colors.The Old Railway Bike Trail is a leisurely family bicycle trail.For most of its 10-kilometre distance the trail follows the abandoned bed of the historic Ottawa, Arnprior, and Parry Sound Railway, opened in 1896 and decommissioned in 1959.

Minnesing Mountain Bike Trail
Length: 4.7 to 23.4 km Time:4 hours - 1 day
Location: The Minnesing Trail is located on the north side of Highway 60 at km 23.

The Minnesing Mountain Bike Trail is a steep, rugged mountain bike trail consisting of hilly, sometimes muddy, terrain filled with rock, roots and obstacles unsuitable for small children and unfit adults.

Byers Lake Mountain Bike Trail
Length:13 km round trip Time:4-5 hours
Location: The trailhead is located about 10 km east from the Kingscote Access Point on the Elephant Lake Road north of Harcourt, Ontario.

A short mountain bike trail of 6.5 km (13 km round trip) and moderate degree of difficulty .Once on the mountain bike trail, there is an interesting 150-metre side trail that provides access to Gut Rapids, which is a narrow scenic canyon on the York River.

Canoeing

Algonquin Provincial Park offers the canoeing enthusiast a network of over 2,100 km of canoe routes. There are two outfitters which offer canoe rentals in the park:
Opeongo Store and Canoe Centre
Located 6 km north from km 46.3 on Highway 60
Portage Store and Canoe Centre
Located at km 14.1 on Highway 60

Fishing

Algonquin has a reputation for some of the best trout fishing in Canada. More than 230 lakes have native Brook Trout and 149 have Lake Trout.Along the highway, many of the lakes are stocked with Splake (a hybrid of Brook and Lake trout) and fishing is outstanding. Spring is the best season for trout and summer brings on more enjoyment with Smallmouth Bass.
